Michael Walker has been in Law Enforcement for over 20 years.
Michael began his law enforcement career with the Watsonville Police Department, and worked there for 12 years. He was involved in gang investigation at WPD for approximately 7 years. He was also responsible for assisting in the establishment of policies regarding the purging of gang files and how gang members would be documented. This policy later became the county wide protocol for gang prosecution.
In 2002 Michael went to work for the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement, Gang Suppression Enforcement Team. His team specialized in investigating prison gangs, biker gangs, and organized crime groups. They also spent a lot of time assisting other agencies with their gang and narcotic investigations. During his time at DOJ Michael was assigned to several formal FBI Prison Gang / Organized Crime Task Forces, managed and participated in innumerable covert surveillances and long term investigations, as well as handling numerous informants.
Michael is currently employed by the Watsonville Police Department as their Gang Intelligence Analyst. He is responsible for gang member validations, tracking prison gang members and their activities both in and out of prison, and keeping the agency abreast of the latest trends in prison and street gangs. Another facet of his work is to assist the Gang Investigation Division with long term projects that involve regional Organized Crime groups.
Michael has trained Law Enforcement Officers from each of the Federal Law Enforcement agencies, law enforcement officers from many different states as well as California state, county and local officers. Michael has taught at most major gang investigation conferences in the Western United States as well as at smaller seminars. Michael instructs on the following topics: Prison Gang Identification and Investigation, Investigation and Prosecution of Criminal Street Gangs and Organized Crime Groups, Gangs and Technology, "La Nuestra Familia" prison gang and Nortenos, Court Preparation and Expert Testimony and is a certified trainer of the California Department of Corrections "LEADS" database.
Michael is a member of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers, the International Chiefs of Police Association, the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, the National Tactical Officers Association, the CDCR California Gang Task Force, the National Tactical Police Dog Association, the National Narcotic Officers Alliance Coalition, the California Narcotic Officers Association and the Central Coast Safe Streets Violent Gang Task Force
He is proud to be on the Board of Directors for Central Coast Gang Investigation as well as the CCGIA Executive Director, and looks forward to being able to provide quality training to law enforcement officers in the United States.
